Pilastro Nero (Black Pillar)
Two Italian mountaineers set out to climb Cholatse, a 6,440m Himalayan peak, with no easy ascent routes. Matteo Stella from Courmayeur and Riccardo Bergamini from Lucca accompany us on a journey to the Cholatse base camp. Due to the dry season and the strong wind of the past few days, the two climbers are faced with dangerous climbing conditions. A serac has clear snow releases and the crevasses are covered with windy snow. The risk is too high. They therefore decide to climb another peak: a rocky pyramid that stands next to the summit. Unclimbed mountain, about 6000 meters high. With little rock climbing equipment they reach the new summit which they will then name after two women: Santa Barbara and Santa Chiara. The film is about mountaineering, people, places and ways of experiencing the mountains that are different from each other; it teaches us to face apparent defeats by transforming them into new victories.
